Learning New Things
So I have jumped,I am now midair and sort of shi**ng my pants because i just did it. Yay for me and my brain is like Nay we cant do this, abort mission, but we cant we already jumped.
This is exactly what my current journey feels like. You see 3 months ago,i received a life changing email it read "Miss Sinkala you have been selected as 1 of 100 women in the whole of England for tech Up programme".This programme seeks to find women from underrepresented communities with no tech experience or knowledge and teach you skills that within 6 months can equip you to become a data scientist, full stack developer or webmaster. I signed up for this competition because I have been meaning to create a social impact app, buthad no funds to get someone to do it,so when i saw this opportunity that was it.
Yes I have worked in the tech department of a finance institute but I am clueless about UX,mobile apps etc,so imagine how daunting it is when i realise i have to learn all these. What if i am required to hack something? okay watching too much Money Heist isn't helping, but seriously what if I am required to show everyone my code and present,il die *palms on face*,but i do it anyway. Here is how....
What if i am required to hack something? okay watching too much Money Heist isn't helping, but seriously what if I am required to show everyone my code and present,i will literally die *palms on face*.
I am glad to say i have neither been asked to hack or present anything hence i haven't died. But i have been learning a lot,so far my experience now includes social media,UX,UI mobile app design and learning to code in python.
I think this has been the biggest lesson for me in all this, how do i do it you ask? The key is actual breaks,I am not even joking doing this course made me realise just how tired your brain gets as you get older,I have to fore myself to learn and then i have to force myself to take a break that requires me not to look at a screen. Also red wine at the end of the day doesn't hurt.Helps with the jump.
Doing the course involves learning but also exercising my memory muscle because I have to do tests to show my understanding, and actually this site began as one of my assignments, but will eventually evolve into the passion project. This blog will not only take you onto my tech up journey but on my journey to creating better sustainable and accountable social impact ideas,I want this to also be a shared community of ideas and best practice around the world
As Dr Black once said,we all have a voice, you just have to use yours in whatever form.
