Nukwase Tembo is a Zambian contemporary artist. Her work explores and challenges toxic societal norms that infringe upon the rights and values of women of colour. This is in the context of post-colonial African nations where many borrowed and Western ideals have become the accepted norm and where culture (supposedly fluid, dynamic and subject to evolution), is treated as an inflexible standard. She recently had a first succesful Solo exhbit titled "The gate keepers of morallity", in December 2019,with half her works being sold at the event. Please see a portfolio of her work above and one of her works pictured.
Upcoming Project
The next project installation will be a collaboration with Young Masters Art Prize winner Mr Giggs Kgole in London, this will be held in July 2020 at a soon to be disclosed location.
Kgole’s works are an exposition of the interplay between the identities of people living in rural Limpopo and the world which they inhabit.
The artist grew up in a Limpopo village, South Africa and tells vivid human stories about the experiences of people who live there. They are stories that are untold to an urban audience, to whom rural South Africa is a hidden landscape. They tell tales of struggle, of abandonment, of promises broken and dreams deferred.
